In this final training video we cover a few useful accessories that will help you as you shoot your iPhone videos. We will talk about monopods, lapel mics, and lenses made exclusively for iPhones (crazy, I know!).

These accessories are reasonably priced and are worth their weight since they will vastly improve the quality of your iPhone videos.

We use an iPhone 4S running on iOS 7, but any smart device running on most current operating systems should be fine. The Ollo lens we demonstrate fits beautifully on our 4S; if you have a iPhone 5 or iPhone 5S you will need to buy the Ollo lenses specifically made for those devices.

Now that you’ve mastered making videos on your iPhone, you’re probably looking into how to improve on them even more. In this video we’re going to talk about three useful accessories: monopods, lapel mics, and lenses. Yes, they make iPhone lenses.

If you haven’t noticed by now, the audio on your iPhone is barely useable. So the easiest way to make your videos stand out is with quality audio. And you do that using a microphone. If you’re on a shoestring budget, you can use the microphone in your headset that came with your iPhone. However, you’re going to look like a dork. So we recommend going with a Rode smartLav. You can plug it into your iPhone and get it up and running for about 60 bucks. And if you need an extension cord you can get one of those for about 6 dollars.

The second accessory you’re really gonna want to get is a set of lenses for your iPhone. By having lenses in your kit, you can play around with shot sizes and do interesting compositions. And these lenses don’t need to break the bank. With Photojojo you can buy a lens for 20 dollars, or a set for 50. But these are plastic lenses, which is why we recommend Ollo lenses. For 70 to a 100 dollars, you can get 2 to 3 lenses that are made of high quality glass.

Shaky cam works for Hollywood…sometimes. But it’s not so great for your iPhone videos. That’s why we recommend getting a monopod. A monopod is a quick and easy way to stabilize your footage. Just place it on the ground, set your iPhone right on top, and now you’ve got stabilized footage. And if you want to go all out, you can get a specialized case that allows your iPhone to attach to the monopod.

With better audio, a variety of lenses, and a monopod to stabilize your footage, your videos are going to take on a professional feel.
